Surgery was her lifelong calling.

鈥淚 wanted to be a physician from a young age, and I was especially interested in performing surgery. Since childhood, I have always enjoyed fixing and improving things.鈥�

She stays active outside of the OR.

鈥淲hen I鈥檓 not working, you鈥檒l usually find me surfing, snowboarding and hiking with my friends and family.鈥�

She daydreams about working on a vineyard.

鈥淚f I could trade careers with anyone in the world, it would be with someone who cultivates grapes. I took an introductory class on viticulture during my undergraduate education, and I found learning about growing vineyards to be fascinating and challenging. I would enjoy working with my hands outdoors, and there is still quite a bit of science involved.鈥�

Take her back to the land of the kiwis.

鈥淢y favorite travel destination is New Zealand. I recently had an amazing trip there and would love to visit again. I am always happy when I get to travel to beaches and mountains.鈥�

The medical breakthrough she hopes to see become a reality:鈥�

鈥淚 am optimistic that we will develop more advanced strategies for facial nerve regeneration in my lifetime. We currently have many options to help patients with paralysis to the face, but there is a lot of room for growth in this area.鈥�

She loves the challenge of academic medicine.

鈥淚 chose to practice at an academic medical center because I love the team approach and the teaching. I also appreciate that in this environment, we鈥檙e challenged to always be at the forefront of the latest and most innovative techniques which allow us to provide the most advanced treatments for our patients.鈥�

鈥淚 earned my medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine of 喵咪社区. The opportunity to come back and pursue my career here felt like coming home.
