Dr. David Ginsberg stands outside in a white medical coat and smiles.

Dr. Ginsberg is a urologist with 喵咪社区 who specializes in treating pelvic floor disorders. He treats patients at Keck Hospital of 喵咪社区, 喵咪社区 Norris Cancer Hospital and 喵咪社区 Verdugo Hills Hospital.

Here鈥檚 what you won鈥檛 find on his resume.

He wanted to be the team doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

鈥淚 love baseball, and I initially went to medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon so that I could be the team doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers. While I still love the team 鈥 and was able to be in attendance for Freddie Freeman鈥檚 home run against the Yankees in game 1 of the 2024 World Series 鈥 I realized in medical school that I was actually more interested in urology.鈥

Becoming a professional baseball player would be a lot of fun.

鈥淚f I could trade careers with anyone in the world, it would be designated hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers 鈥 no explanation needed!鈥

Outside of work, he鈥檚 usually doing something active.

鈥淲hen my children were younger, my free time was devoted to driving all over the state watching them play soccer or basketball. Now that they are college graduates, my free time is more flexible. I enjoy cycling, playing tennis and spending quality time with my wife and the rest of the family.鈥

Sports and more family time top his bucket list.

鈥淢y ever-expanding bucket list includes watching tennis matches in-person at the U.S. Open in New York City. I鈥檇 also like to visit the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil and go on more trips when both kids (who are now adults) are free and able to join us.鈥

It鈥檚 impossible to pick a favorite travel destination.鈥

鈥淚 love anywhere I go with my wife and kids. We have been fortunate to enjoy amazing trips to places like Australia, Thailand, Japan, Europe and the Galapagos Islands. Making it to see the Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil was especially great!鈥

He previously lived on the east coast.

鈥淢any think I have lived in California my whole life, but as a child I also lived in New York City for two years and Atlanta for seven years.鈥

His enjoys historical fiction.

鈥淲ith all the streaming channels, my 鈥榝avorite鈥 TV show is always evolving. I recently watched 鈥楽h艒gun,鈥 which is set in Japan in the 1600s, and it was amazing.鈥

The advice he follows every day:

鈥淢y mentors taught me a variety of things that still resonate with me today. They taught me to pay attention to details, to never rush during a surgical case and to always be curious.鈥

Helping patients improve is deeply gratifying.

鈥淭he most rewarding part of my job is when patients tell me, 鈥榊ou have given me my life back鈥 after we鈥檙e able to help improve their urinary symptoms such as incontinence and urinary frequency. I also work with a lot of patients with spinal cord injuries, and there is great satisfaction in helping them manage the challenges they may face caring for their bladder.鈥

Patients can expect collaboration and a good joke.

鈥淚 always listen to my patients about what is bothering them so that, together, we can figure out the best treatment plan that helps them meet their goals. I also try to use humor when possible.鈥

He loves that urology allows for meaningful relationships with patients.

鈥淯rology is an amazing combination of visits, office procedures and surgeries. We are able to help a majority of our patients and, at the same time, build long-lasting and meaningful relationships with them, as many conditions we treat can be chronic.鈥濃

The medical breakthrough he鈥檚 hoping to see:

鈥淒uring my lifetime, I hope to see a total cure for neurogenic bladder dysfunction, which is caused by damage to the nerves that control the bladder. I often treat patient with a neurogenic bladder secondary to neurologic conditions such as spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson鈥檚 disease.鈥

He鈥檚 passionate about medical education.

鈥淥ne of the reasons I chose to practice at an academic medical center is I love working with medical students, residents and fellows. They are smart, keep me on my toes and help keep me young at heart!鈥

He appreciates the camaraderie at Keck Medicine.

鈥淲hile we are a major academic institution, I love that we are still a tight-knit community where everyone truly cares for each other.鈥
